My dog has a small pink discoloration on her lower eyelid. What is it?

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 25 days old | 40 lbs

My Aussie has a small pinkish spot on her lower eyelid. Not a bump and it does not seem to bother her at all. Looks more like a discoloration spot. Any thoughts on what this could be? Thanks.

Hi and thanks for posting on PeCoach. This looks like a minor pigmentary change in the eyelid. This is not uncommon and usually isn't a concern. If you notice the area is becoming very red, irritated, or starts spreading, then you will want to take Sky to see her veterinarian to have this evaluated.

    Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This tiny pigmented area could be just a normal change of the skin and is not concerning at this time. I would definitely recommend just monitoring this and if it becomes raised, it is likely a Meibomian gland cyst as you mentioned. Surgical removal can be considered at that time, since these glands can grow quite large in some pets and cause irritation more than anything. I just noticed tonight that my dog has a small bump on his lower eyelid. It’s pimk and sort of looks like a pimple or stye of some sort. Any advice on whether I should be concerned or not would be great
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I would continue to monitor it for now as this may just be an area of infection or inflammation. It could even be a growth though thankfully most of the eyelid growths in dogs are benign. I would continue to monitor it for now. If it goes away then great. However, if it does not go away and actually continues to grow, I recommend you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to look into this further and see what seems more likely. Best of luck!

I have just noticed a small brown disc about 2cm on the edge of the lens of my 9yr old staffie's right eye - what is it and what should I do please?
It could be a benign pigmentation but you should have your vet take a look at it to determine the exact cause and if treatment is needed. Without seeing the lesion, it is hard to know the cause so please have your vet examine her eye.

This discoloration appeared on the lower corner of my 5.5 month old puppy yesterday. It doesn't seem to bother her. The spot is very slightly raised. Her eyes are always crying and this hasn't seemed to increase as of noticing the spot.
Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear about B. This looks like an infection or inflammation of one of the tear glands along the eyelid. I would advise warm compressing the area at least twice daily for 5 - 10 minutes to see if it comes to a head and ruptures. If that doesn't work after a few days, or it worsens, spreads, or other signs develop, then I would advise a vet check. It may need some antibiotic therapy or anti-inflammatory therapy to go away. Again, when in doubt, see your vet. Good luck

My 10 month Pyrenees has a black spot on his lower eye.. towards the white/pink third eyelid.. I just started noticing it a few days ago. Doesn't seem to bother him
Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. I would not be alarmed by this finding. Some dogs contain more pigment (called melanin) in the eye or different areas of the body for that matter. I would bring this to your veterinarians attention and take photos of it weekly to make sure there are no changes in size or appearance. If it becomes raised or irritating then I would have this further looked at by a veterinarian or a Veterinary ophthalmologist. Otherwise, if he is not bothered by this I would just monitor for now. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I think it would be a good idea to mention this to your veterinarian next time he goes in. However, this may be normal. Sometimes there are changes in pigmentation in that region of the eye which are not considered abnormal especially if not bothering the patient. Good luck and have a good night!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! The little area of discoloration is not necessarily anything to worry about. I see this commonly with time with dark skinned animals. As long as the skin does not seem irritated and the discoloration does not happen on the nose itself, I am inclined to just continue to watch it. Apply a dab of children’s sunscreen lotion before she goes outside to protect that area from sunburn. Best wishes to you and Luna!

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. This bump could be a benign cyst that may go away on it's own but it could also be a tumor (cancer) of some kind. There is no way to tell for sure just by looking at a photo. I suggest you take Naya to your vet to have this checked. My dog has a black discoloration under her eye. What could it be?
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. What you are seeing appears to be a spot of hyperpigmentation which could have been from an old injury. This could also just be a change in the skin color which happens at different areas of the body due to aging. Some diseases can cause hair and skin changes so I would monitor this for now and if it become bigger or raised, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the area so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign.
