Why is my dog's reverse sneezing, wheezing, and shaking worse?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years old | 16 lbs

My dog has been reverse sneezing since a puppy, but lately (he's 2) it has been far worse. He is now also sneezing like a human especially when going outside. He shakes a lot, especially his back leg. His chest also sounds very wheezy and he's snoring more than usual. He's a shih Tzu crossed with miniature bichon

Hi, and thanks for your question. This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or possibly to a rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed. This could be an allergy so I would recommend starting an antihistamine to see if this helps. If there is no improvement or he worsens, I would have him seen by a veterinarian for further diagnostic and treatment recommendations. ( https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/ )
