My cat lost his voice and isn't eating. Should I go to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

Hi, My cat is 10 and has had two days of a hoarse meow, and today has lost his voice. Yesterday he seemed gassy and was bringing up air into his mouth. He ate a small amount yesterday and has had a small amount this morning. His eyes seem clear, breathing fine, nose fine. Seems ok in himself. Should I take him to vet yet? Or wait to see if symptoms get better or deteriorate?

Hi, I would recommend a check up as medications will speed recovery up. In the meantime, you can encourage Cocoa to eat by offering small amount of soft food slightly warmed up, try white fish, pilchards in tomato sauce, tuna in water, or plain boiled chicken. Hope Cocoa feels better soon !
