My dog's spay stitches look off a week after surgery. Should I worry?

My dog Maggie got spayed a week or so ago and her stitches are looking a bit off

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Maggie. Unfortunately there is no picture attached to your post, so I don't know what her stitches look like sadly. My best advice is that if you have any concerns about her stitches, I would take her into a vet in the morning to get it checked out. I hope this helps!

Zoii had spaying operation on 19th August her stitches were removed on 30th August. I am joining pic of her spaying site please tell whether its fine or not.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is hard to tell by the picture but the area looks scabbed over and healing well. If you feel a bump underneath, it could be a knot from the suture that is under the skin layer. If there is no discharge, no heat around the area, and no swelling, I would just continue to monitor the area. Good luck and kisses to Zoii!

Lina had a spay/gastropexy one week ago. The incision today looks more red/scabby. Just making sure this is normal. The photos are in order of earliest to present

If the incision looks more red and scabby, that suggests infection. I would have her seen by a vet first thing in the morning to get it checked out to be safe. I hope this helps!

I rescued a 3 month old puppy from the animal shelter. They fixed her Thursday, Saturday I noticed her stiches popped completely. What can I do until I get a hold of the clinic?

My puppy got spayed 5 months ago, and everything healed properly, but tonight I got home from work and noticed the area she got stickers looks like this. I don’t know if she rough housed with our other dog and he bit her or what, but it didn’t look l
This looks like a reaction to the stitches that were used under the skin from the spay surgery. There is a type of suture that your vet may have used that takes months and months to completely dissolve. That is my best guess as to what is going on. I don't think you need to rush her to an ER but I do think you need to get her an exam with your vet sometime in the next 24 hours. Try to keep her as calm and quiet as possible in the meantime. Watch it carefully, if it starts to look swollen she needs to see an ER vet.

My dog got spayed today and they had to repair a hernia. She was going through a false pregnancy. They said that they stitched inside and glued outside but I’m afraid the outside is open. The vet is closed until Tuesday but I want to see if I need to
I received the picture that you forwarded to customer service. I presume the area that you are concerned about is the area outlined in red. When we close the skin with surgical glue, there can be a small amount of tissue that looks like it does in the picture. I don't see anything that is particularly concerning in that picture. Make sure to keep Mia rested and use an e-collar so she cannot lick at the incision. The area that you outlined should not look any larger and should not ooze any discharge. Toast’s sutures are enflamed and noticeably swollen at one end, should I be worried?

Dog had spot on spay incision, had them checked out yesterday but today it seems to have popped? Is this normal? I can’t get through to my vet. Surgery was 12 days ago.
Thank you for the photo. I think it looks OK. It appears to be a mild reaction to the stitches under the skin. This happens with some regularity. I would not be overly concerned. You can apply a topical antibiotic ointment to it once a day until it is healed. If you are worried about it you should always have your vet check it out.

My dog got spayed today, her external stitches have a loop that make me feel like it can easliy be pulled. Is this something I should worry about?
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Minnie. The stitches are not very tight, but that can be to accommodate any swelling of the skin post-surgically. As long as she is prevented from licking the incision, it should be fine. If however, the stitches come out or the incision opens up, then she will need to see her veterinarian. Hi there. I would try cleaning it with some mild soap and warm water. She may be having a reaction to the suture material. As long as their incision is still holding together, and Aisha is acting normally, just clean and keep a close eye on her.
