Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | neutered | 13 years old | 25 lbs
My dog has been having this problem where if he is sitting or laying down he will randomly dart up and run as if he were stung by a bee. I took him to the vet and they checked his anal glands and they were fine. She said that he looked fine from the outside however she sent me home with an anti-inflammatory (carprofen) for my dog but he has still been acting this way. Other than this nothing has changed, he poops, pees, eats, and plays the same. He is a 13 year old West Highland Terrier.

If only Truman could talk! That's good that he looked normal on physical exam but it is frustrating not to know why this is happening. Fleas and pinched nerves can make pets react like this. I recommend to call the vet and tell them what is happening. Ask about using an oral flea product like Simparica. If the behavior goes away quickly, then you know it was just 1 or 2 fleas (which may not be visible on physical exam). If the behavior continues, your vet may try some muscle relaxers and/or steroids. I hope this helps and that Truman gets this straightened out quickly.
