Why does my Pomeranian suck and bite her dog toys? Early separation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 10.5 lbs

I’ve noticed for a while that my Pomeranian does this thing where she grabs one of her dog toys and goes to lay down on a bed and starts like sucking the toy and occasionally biting it while sucking. I am wondering if she does that because she might have possible been separated from her mom too early ?? We didn’t get her until she was about 7 or 8 months old so I don’t know anything about her mom and when she was separated from her mom.

It could be related to early separation but it could also be because it is soothing to her or she just likes it. Dogs can develop all sorts of weirdish quirks just like people. As long as she's not ingesting pieces of the toy or making her lips raw, this behavior is fine. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
