My dog needs cephalexin for 30 days. Is this treatment duration normal?

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Male | neutered | 17 years and 5 months old | 50 lbs

is it normal to be giving a 50lb dog cephalexin twice a day for 30 days. seems like a long time.

It is indeed a long treatment course but it would depend on the underlying reason. For example skin diseases/infections may require up to 4 weeks of treatment. Please give us more informations about it to receive more specific answers from us.

    Thank you for submitting your question regarding Maggie. Skin infections can be hard to cure and typically require extended courses of antibiotics. Depending on the severity of the skin infection, treatment protocols can last anywhere from 3-6 weeks. So the time frame she was prescribed the antibiotics seems reasonable. I would complete them as directed unless her veterinarian advises you differently. I hope this information helps!
