My dog grunts, sneezes, snores, and reverse sneezes. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 10 months old | 16 lbs

Penelope has always grunted/groaned often, usually when changing positions/getting belly rubs, but lately (2 weeks-ish) is doing it CONSTANTLY, I’ve also noticed more sneezes, especially when outside, very loud snoring at night, reverse sneezes. Activity, eating/drinking, peeing/pooping, weight all same, no changes in food/environment, laundry soap, or other household variables, no medications, no pertinent health history. Is this allergies? Polyps? Sinusitis? Something to be worried about?Thx!

Allergies, polyps, and sinusitis are all possible causes of Penelope's symptoms. She may also be dealing with a foreign body (such as plant matter) stuck in the nose, or a growth of some sort other than a polyp. Since it sounds like she is otherwise doing well, I would not be overly worried, but her symptoms warrant a trip to the vet to help figure out what is going on. Good luck, and I hope she feels better soon!
