Why is my dog vomiting blood repeatedly, even after vet visits?

Hi, my sister lovingly adopted a Lab. that was found living on the streets, therefore, we don't know the dog's med. history. Thankfully, the dog <3 Francie , has been healthy overall during the time that she's been in my sis's care. However, about 4 mths ago Francie began vomiting blood. My sis immediately rushed her to a Vet, & despite many tests having been done, nothing was found to be " wrong " with her dog. Now 4 mths later, Francie is vomiting up blood again * What may be the cause? Thanks

This could be due to a number of things like irritation of the stomach, a problem with Francie's esophagus, and GI ulcers to name a few. I'm not sure what tests have been done on her, but since this is happening again, I recommend further testing such as an endoscope (putting a camera down her esophagus to see what is going on).

Intermittent vomiting can be a very difficult symptom to diagnose as there may not be any obvious indicators as to the underlying cause. I recommend you contact your vets office for the ultrasound report and consider a full blod panel including b vitamin analysis as chronic bowel issues can often have low b12 levels and respond well to additional supplementation. I would convert her onto a bland, ultra low-fat diet whilst this is being investigated, my preferred option is royal canin gastro low fat (3-4 small meals each day) and also add a probiotic such as fortiflora. Ensure she is up to date with deworming treatments also. An endoscopy or camera study of the gullet and stomach may be required to check for inflammation or foreign bodies causing the bleeding

I recommend to have her checked for stomach worms. If everything looks normal there, I recommend to look into an abdominal ultrasound or an endoscope (which would be best). This is the best way to look for any masses or evidence of cancer. You may also ask your veterinarian about starting an anti-acid protocol which could help. I hope they figure it out quickly!

Hi, she could have gastritis or a viral infections, or eaten something that has upset her stomach. It is difficult to tell without checking her over. I would recommend that you take her to see a vet and in the meantime feed her a bland diet of chicken and rice or white fish and rice. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, without an exam and thorough workup it would be hard to say why she is vomiting blood or having strange stools as this is a very vague symptom of many different issues. If she's eating leaves of certain plants, they may be toxic or causing ulcers in the GI tract which is leading to issues. Parasites, illnesses, injuries, obstructions, underlying health conditions and more can also cause blood in the vomit or stool, and need to be checked out in person. Complete bloodwork from a local vet, a stool sample test, and X-rays of the abdomen can help narrow down potential causes.

These signs could be compatible with an inflammation infection of the gastrointestinal system and surrounding organs (like pancreas and liver). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Gastrointestinal ulceration is possible (that could be the source of blood). Antibiotics and possibly further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed. That does sound concerning. It is possible that she is having another flare up of her previous ulcers. Other causes for diarrhea and vomiting with blood in it include Addison's disease, intestinal parasites, tick-borne diseases, IMHA, IBD, intestinal cancer, among many others. I would recommend that Gubbu get checked out by a vet as soon as possible. After physical examination and a review of her medical history, the vet may recommend bloodwork to check for anemia and other relevant things. They may also recommend an abdominal ultrasound, which will help use get a picture of what her digestive tract is doing and looks like.

This does seem worrisome - Bandit could be dehydrated at this point. The blood in the vomit could be a sign that there is damage to the stomach lining from a foreign object or from a disease like pancreatitis. I’d recommend seeing an emergency veterinarian tonight. They will probably recommend checking blood work and x-rays to start.

I it may be a reaction to the medication or there could have been something else alreadybtherr that just didn’t show it self yet such as an infection. If you are displeased with your vet then you can seek a second opinion but i would give the vet a call or schedule a recheck to see if they want to change medications or do blood work to address the vomiting now. Since there is blood in the vomit I would recommend getting him rechecked to make sure it does not continue and he doesn’t get dehydrated from it

Hi there! Thanks for letting us take care of you today! When there is evidence of blood in the vomit, that raises concern for things like a gastrointestinal ulcer, gastrointestinal tumor, severe gastroenteritis, foreign body ingestion, among other possibilities. This could be vomiting with irritation causing the bleeding and vomiting could be caused by pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. Some tests that are usually run include bloodwork (CBC and chemistry panel +/- coagulation profile) and abdominal ultrasound. Thoracic/cervical radiographs may follow. Further diagnostics will be based on the findings up to that point. Treatment will be based on findings. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything will be fine with Danny!

My 9 month old puppy vomited up blood this morning. No blood clots but her bile was bright red. What should I do?
Poor Snowflake! Vomiting bright red blood is always a concern, so I would recommend taking her to the vet right away for an exam - she may have eaten something toxic, or could have a stomach ulcer, a foreign body that has caused some damage her to her stomach, or even a systemic bleeding disorder of some kind. If she has been vomiting multiple times in the last 24 hours, this can also sometimes cause blood in the vomiting due to irritation of the stomach and esophagus. Your vet can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help determine what is causing the bloody vomit, and get Snowflake started on appropriate treatment for the problem right away.
