What is this small, dry wound on my cat's neck? Should I worry?

Small wound on neck, no puss, had hair blood spot in it but is now dry and clear, any guess what it is? See picture. 16month old cat, part siamese

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Blazko. Poor boy. This could just be from an injury. Given there is no sign of infection, I'd monitor it for now. If it does appear infected (pus, redness, swelling, warmth to the touch), then I'd have him checked out by a vet. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is superficial enough that I think it is possibly going to heal on its own with more time. My concern is that it could also get infected. Try to keep the area as clean as possible and try to prevent her from scratching at it. If no improvement is noted in the next few days or it is worsening, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a great day!

Hello, I just noticed my cat has some sort of leakage or wound on the side of her head on her neck. It's light red and looks like a wound of somesort but she's not bleeding. What is this and should I be really concerned?
Hi there! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is hard to know without being able to evaluate Fiona. However, it is likely to represent an abscess or some type of traumatic injury or laceration. For both cases, it would be advised to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as both would require local wound management as well as antibiotics. If it is a laceration then stitches may also be recommended. I recommend that you Fiona evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment of this wound and to start her on the most appropriate therapy based on the findings. Good luck!

My cat has a sore on his neck and I don’t know how serious it is.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I'm sorry to hear Ringo has a wound on his neck. Based on your picture, it does look like he might have a skin infection of some kind, even possibly from a ruptured abscess. Does he go outside? I would recommend having him evaluated by his regular veterinarian to have area clipped, cleaned, and assessed to determine what may be going on, and what treatment (antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, or possible surgical repair) may be needed to resolve it. If he goes outside and the wound may have come from an unknown animal, I would also recommend his rabies vaccine be boostered as well. Good luck!

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. It appears Precious may have sustained an abscess, probably from a fight with another cat. The abscess ruptured, & Precious has been licking the area to keep it clean. Her sandpaper tongue can actually cause more trauma to the area. You can clean the area with a little warm water & a disinfectant such as Betadine, & you may need to put an elizabethean collar on her to stop the licking. These type wounds do not always need antibiotics, but it would not be a bad idea to let your vet have a look at it just to make sure . Hope she well very soon.

My cat had been scratching a lot, and today I just saw a small hair loss wound on him. I’m worried, but Im hoping that it is just a scratch or something. What can I do?
Hello. Thank you for using Boop by Petco! It is very hard to tell from the photo what is going on. It is uncommon for cats to get general wounds just by rubbing up against something or scratching themselves - usually a wound is due to direct trauma like a bite from another cat. If he goes outdoors this could very well be the case. This wound may turn into an infection (abscess). At this stage I would just monitor the wound. Do not put anything on it. If you notice any of these things then you need to get him to your vet ASAP. * swelling around the wound * discharge coming from the wound * wound is hot to the touch * Casey stops eating/drinking or becomes lethargic * vomiting or diarrhea Hope this helps. My cat has this on his neck. It started as a small scratch and got worse. Was clearing up yesterday and now it’s flared up again.
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. Judging from the picture, this could be a ruptured abscess or secondary to self trauma from him scratching at the area. I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made. He will need the hair clipped from around the wound and the wound cleaned. Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question. It looks like it could be from an injury if there is a scab on it. A scab means it's healing, so I would just keep an eye on it for now. If you see signs of infection, it gets bigger, it starts to bother her, or it doesn't appear to be healing, then have Fatina seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

My cat has a small open / round wound on his neck what could it be.
This could be a fight wound, a parasite, or an abscess on your cat's neck. All of those things would require immediate veterinarian attention so I would recommend going to a veterinary emergency clinic this weekend to get checked out. Good luck!

It's good that the area has stopped bleeding. I would keep an eye on it for now. I would gently clean the wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and Nick will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!
