My pug has allergies and diabetes. What non-steroid treatments exist?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 9 months old

I have a pet pug. It is male and 2 and a half years old. He was suffering from severe allergies and for medication was using steroid tablet on alternate days- wylone10mg. Recently he started peeing oddly and the vet doubts he is diabetic. Yesterday his FBS was 348 in India. So the vet advised to reduce the steroid to half- 5mg . We started so and immediately the itching and rashes reappeared. The vet says again using steroid can risk his health. poor thing , he groans at the itching . pls

If this is allergies, there is more than steroids that can be used for treatment. I would try topical therapies as well. You will need to find a shampoo that is calming and start him on fish oil supplements. The products I recommend are below, but I am unsure if you are able to purchase these in India. You may need to run these by your veterinarian to see if there is anything comparable. There are other products such as Apoquel and Cytopoint that the veterinarian may be able to give to Kannan, you would have to ask about these. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions / concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further. 1. Douxo PS Calm shampoo 2. Essential 6 spot on by dermoscent 3. Krillex krill chews
