Why is my dog suddenly aggressive and grabbing other dogs' necks?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 10.5 lbs

My dog has recently been trying to grab all the other dogs by their necks or by their extra skin for no reason lately. She’s especially doing it to my female chihuahua when she isn’t looking or doing anything. I am wondering why she’s been doing this so much lately ?? She almost had a fight with my male chihuahua (he’s the alpha of the pack) a few days ago and I’m really confused as to what has gotten into her ?? She’s always been a sweetheart to my pack of dogs and all of a sudden this happens.

A sudden behavioral change can sometimes indicate underlying pain or illness. You may want to have Pinkie or your other dogs examined to rule out any health issues that could be causing the sudden behavioral change. Hormones can also play a part, so if Pinkie or your other dogs aren't spayed and neutered, they could be competing over attention, resources, etc as one is going into heat. Other issues such as resource guarding, stress, socialization issues, etc may also be in play. If you can find a pattern or trigger it may help narrow down the problem.
