Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 5 years and 7 months old | 50 lbs
I noticed a tiny lump above my dog's anus over a month ago, it recently grew very quickly. Any idea what it could be and/or how concerned I should be? I'll be taking her to the vet asap but I can't even call for an appointment until Monday and am just worried.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include skin cysts, infections, benign or more malignant type of tumors. Any firm mass or nodule in a senior pet can be case for concern. You can monitor it for rapid change or growth. See your veterinarian if you notice any changes or if it cause discomfort or impedes function. After a physical exam, your veterinarian can perform a fine needle aspirate to collect a sample for pathology. Treatment, if indicated, will depend on the results of the exam and diagnostics.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and attaching a picture. I recommend having a vet take a look at the lump and sticking a needle in it. It looks like it could be a cyst (fluid-filled mass) Which is not concerning. If not, they can look at the cells of the mass under a microscope and possibly determine if it is something serious. They may recommend removing it while its small or continuing to monitor for growth. Good luck and kisses to Jasper!

This lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take Zoey to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.
