My dog's tick removal failed, part broke off. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Newfoundland | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 95 lbs

Hello! I have tried my first tick removal today. I do not think it was sucessful. Removed it with a tool, but there was a sound that suggested something broke. The tick is alive and moving. She has seresto collar, but she had a tick bite before( She will go to the vet when they open on Monday, but what should i do now? Any meds? Should i worry? Attaching images. Thank you!

Hi. Looks like you did a great job. She will need to be seen as that site looks a little inflamed. And it seems the collar isnt working. I'd recommend getting a glea and tick preventative from your veterinarian. I also would recommend getting the environment treated as well to help break all the life cycles
