White bump on mini schnauzer skin, not a tick. What could it be?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | neutered | 11 years and 1 month old | 23 lbs

I found a white pimple like bump on my mini schnauzer skin. Don't think it is a tick. See picture. Can you tell what it is?

This is likely a benign skin mass and likely what we call a sebaceous adenoma. These are benign and develop in older animals. Of course it is impossible to say for sure just by looking at it. You would need to have this removed and sent for testing to confirm what it is. However, with the thousands of sebaceous adenomas I've seen, there is a really good chance that is what you are seeing. I typically remove these during another procedure such as a dental cleaning since the animal will already be under anesthesia. If there are no upcoming procedures that need to be done, then monitoring these is just fine. Removal of these when they break open or become infected is generally recommended or when they bother the animal.
