My corgi puppy has diarrhea with jelly-like blood. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | 1 year and 3 months old | 19 lbs

Hello, my 8 month old corgi has had diarrhea since yesterday. It was less watery today, but there were 3 dime sized spots off jelly like blood. Should I be worried?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Diarrhea with evidence of blood can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Wink evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Blood in the stool and diarrhea could be caused by parasites, change in diet, toxin ingestion, infectious viral diseases, blockage in the intestines caused by ingestion of a foreign body, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. Please make an appointment to have O’Ryan seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible, as diarrhea and blood in the stool can lead to dehydration and anemia, and can be very dangerous if left untreated. I recommend taking in a fecal sample from O’Ryan to your vet as well, as that may aid them in making a diagnosis. Good luck, and I hope he feels better soon!
