My puppy won't eat or drink and is lethargic. Is it an emergency?

My friends dog won't eat or drink any food or play with her toys, is there anything she can do

Yes, your friend can take Lola into the vet. If she's 13 days old, it's very serious that she isn't eating or drinking. Young puppies are very fragile, and whenever there is a problem with them (especially if they aren't eating), it's considered a medical emergency. Have your friend take her into a vet immediately.

Hi, I think Lola is not 100% if she is refusing to eat and just wanting to sit on your lap. I would recommend that you have her checked over as puppies are quite delicate and need to be eating regularly. She could have parasites or just a little temperature for example, it could be something quite simple but obviously that could cause her to feel poorly. Have her seen by your vet so that she can get any necessary treatment. Hope she gets better soon !

Poor Ella! It's actually quite serious that she isn't eating or drinking, and those are unfortunately signs of many illnesses. She could have a foreign body, systemic illness, infection, or injury. Given her age and the fact she's had these symptoms for two days, she needs to see a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.

My dog started acting weird this morning, she won't eat or drink and is being lazy. She hardly gets up, is this an emergency?
If she isn't throwing up or having diarrhea, I wouldn't say this in an emergency at this point. I recommend monitoring her for now, and taking her to the vet first thing in the morning if she still isn't eating or drinking. You can try to tempt her to eat with boiled white meat chicken (no bone) and white rice in small amounts. If she does start vomiting and having diarrhea, I would take her into your vet right away.

Julia should be examined by your veterinarian today. Vomiting and a lack of appetite in a puppy can quickly lead to dehydration which can kill. If she is not vaccinated, diseases such as distemper should be ruled out. At the very least, she may need supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, anti emetics and parenteral nutrtion) until she is eating on her own and not vomting any longer.

Why hasn't my 8 week old puppy eaten all day!
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Romeo Lion. I recommend seeking emergency veterinary care for him today. It is abnormal for a puppy to go so long without eating. Being such a young dog, I worry that his blood sugar will drop without eating. The veterinarian will examine him and try to determine why he isn't eating. You can try placing karo syrup on his gums prior to seeking care. I hope this information helps!

You need to take Dora into a vet immediately. It's very concerning that such a young puppy isn't eating anything, has vomited, and has been lethargic. That indicates she is sick, and because young puppies can be so fragile and go downhill quite quickly, she needs veterinary care now. Pease take her into a vet asap.

Oh dear! If Piper has not eaten in seven days and is acting lethargic, this is definitely not normal - she needs to see a veterinarian as soon as possible, as this sounds like a potentially life-threatening problem. I would recommend taking her to an emergency clinic tonight to be seen. The veterinarian there can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and see what kind of treatment is needed. If you're not sure where to take her, try calling your regular vet's office - their voicemail message should have contact information for your nearest ER or an on-call doctor for emergencies.

Poor pup! I agree with you that something is very wrong. Acting so lethargic that she won't even get up, as well as not eating is very worrying - these are very vague symptoms that could be caused by any kind of pain or illness, unfortunately, so it's impossible to say what's wrong without an exam. Regardless, I'm very concerned that this may be a serious, life-threatening problem from your description. I would strongly recommend taking your dog to an emergency vet today. The vet can do an exam as well as blood work and x-rays if needed to help determine the problem and see what can be done to help her.

Hello. I am sorry to hear that Sugar is feeling so sick. When a puppy is lying around, not eating or drinking they are usually very ill. This may be either an infection (like Parvo), a problem she was born with (a congenital problem), or possibly something she ate or got into. I understand you are short on finances. Please offer Sugar some baby food directly into her mouth. If she will not take baby food from you and has not eaten all day her blood sugar may get dangerously low. You should see if she can lick up a small amount of karo syrup to try and increase her blood sugar level. If at all possible I would get her to an emergency veterinarian tonight to have her assessed. At least an exam can give you a lot of information about her vitals and they can lead you in the right direction to try and get her better. I hope the best for her.
