Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 6 years and 3 months old | 75 lbs

Hi, my mix dog (Labrador&Stafford) has a lichen on the nose. First time before 14 months, it lasted for 10 days (picture 1) appeared in 24 hours. And now again (picture 2) also appeared less than 24 h. What is it, what is the cause and how to prevent it. Thanks for answering Vlado Vukovic, CROATIA my apologies for badly English

Hello, sorry to hear about Thor. This could be consistent with multiple things. Most benign cause is that he has rubbed his nose on something and scraped it. However, other causes may include autoimmune disease and less likely deficiencies in some nutrients like zinc. If this does not appear to be a scrape, and doesn't resolve within a few days on its own, then Thor may need additional diagnostics and work up through your regular veterinarian. Things to consider at home is not allowing him to dig around or sniff areas where he could scratch his nose. Monitor for any swelling, pain, bleeding, or discharge and notify your veterinarian if you note any. Hope this helps and best of luck.
