Why is my senior Yorkie with health issues lethargic and not eating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 12 years and 9 months old | 12.5 lbs

Hello. My male Yorkie is 12yo. I am concerned about him in that he has collapsed trachea, heart murmur grade 1. He is so lethargic and hardly eats, no longer interested in going out much. As a consequence he has gained weight; his stomach looks distended. He also has been through 2 bouts of cancer (lump on right paw, leg). Please help

Poor Charlie! There are several things that can cause him to be lethargic and not eat like kidney or liver disease, an infection, a tumor/cancer, general GI upset, parasites, and much more. Since he has an extensive medical history and he isn't eating well and lethargic, I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at him asap. Your vet will be able to do a fecal, blood work and even x-rays if needed. They will be able to recommend the best treatment plan for him to help him feel better! I hope this helps!
