My dog isn't eating much and drinking more. Can I give dewormer early?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 70 lbs

My dog is not eating well last few days. If we give him kibble he eats it but not as much. he is drinking more water, As weather is heating up here that might be the reason. Can i give him his deworming medication 2 weeks early?

Hello, sorry to hear about Puku. I would likely not give him a deworming unless you have a positive stool sample. Otherwise, the dewormer medication may cause him to feel sicker. If his appetite does not return to normal in a few days then you should have a visit with your veterinarian. If he returns back to normal then you can continue to monitor him. Deworming typically treats roundworms and tapeworms, of which these typically do not cause many clinical signs and typically involve some weightloss. If Puku does have worms, you may be able to see these on the stool. A fecal test would be the best way to diagnose parasites, so you could simply collect a fresh sample and have your veterinarian submit it for testing. Hope this helps and best of luck.
