My dog has a pink scraped nose patch. Ointment or vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 4 years and 9 months old | 58 lbs

A small pink patch has appeared on Athena’s nose overnight. It’s possible it happened when she was in the backyard this morning. She didnot have it when we went to bed last night. It appears the fur is scraped off. It does not seem to bother her. What should I do? Should I take her in to see her vet or just keep an eye on it and watch for changes? Should I put an over the counter antibiotic ointment on it? There is no blood and I haven’t cleaned the area.

Hello, it does look like she scraped her nose on something. You can clean it with a clean damp cloth and just monitor the area. You can rub a little neosporin on the area if you think she will not lick it. If she does lick it its not a big deal, but then you shouldn't apply any more. If you note any swelling, pain, discharge, or bleeding then have Athena evaluated by her veterinarian immediately. Hope this helps and best of luck.
