My cat has a broken leg. Is vomiting and not eating a sign of pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11 months and 8 days old | 9 lbs

What is abnormal/normal in recovery of a fractured tibia? First few days she had a bad appetite and slept through her pain meds. She started eating again & moving around. Took her back to vet for evaluation/splintrewrap, & after visit she was sleepy and didnt want to eat later on. 3 days have passed and she mostly ingested water and tried eating. Shes thrown up 2 times, We didnt get any more pain meds during her last visit. Picture attached shows her vomit from yesterday. Could she be in pain?

Hello, sorry to hear about Kirara. Yes this could be a sign that she is in pain. Even though cats tolerate pain well, fractures are very painful and she should have pain medications administered. Kirara should likely have some form of opioid for the next couple of days to control her pain. Unfortunately, her signs could also be associated with other underlying conditions and side effects from whatever trauma she suffered. Infections is one thing we worry about when using any form of bandage/splint. If she continues to be lethargic, continues to vomit, and not want to eat then she should be immediately evaluated by her veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.
