My chihuahua won't eat, lost weight, and is constipated. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 8 days old | 6 lbs

Hi there! My 11 months old chihuahua hasn't been eating much lately. We feed her steamed chicken breast for 2 times a day, along with her dog food. However, she's only been eating about 5-10% of her food daily. This has been going on for 4 days already, and she has lost some weight. Furthermore, she's become more cautious and anxious around young children. Despite this, she is active, loves running around, and loves eating her treats. Her poop is alright, but she hasn't pooped for the past 2 day

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Mocha evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Treatment would be based on findings. Good luck and have a great day! Hoping for a speedy recovery!
