Is it safe to give my dog human medicine for an upset stomach?

No, I don't recommend it. It's a human medication not labeled for us in dogs, and it's not a treatment for an upset stomach anyway. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 6-8 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he vomits in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. This is a very common question fortunately. Try something like fasting your pup for 12-24 hours then feeding 2-3 days of plain boiled chicken / hamburger rice. You might also think about obtaining a probiotic from a pet store. There are several reputable brands. Hope this helps.

Poor Dorro! It could be he ate something that has upset his stomach. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. What is safe to give a ten pound fur baby for intentional upset?
Stomach upset could be caused by toxin ingestion, parasites, change in diet, infectious diseases, blockage in the gastrointestinal tract caused by ingestion of a foreign body, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. Please make an appointment to have Fuzz seen by a veterinarian to help determine the cause of her symptoms. In the mean time, you can try boiling boneless skinless chicken in water, shredding the chicken, and feeding Fuzz small amounts of the resulting chicken broth and cooked chicken with some boiled white rice once it has cooled. You can also try offering her cooked extra lean ground beef and boiled potatoes. These bland foods can help settle Fuzz's stomach. I don't recommend giving any over the counter medication to Fuzz, as some human medications can be harmful for pets. No, I would not give gripe water to Porter, it's not specified for use in dogs. I can give you a home remedy instead to see if that helps with Porter's upset stomach. Then slowly add back in her normal diet.

I don’t recommend pepto in dogs. It doesn’t seem to do much and some dogs are sensitive to the aspirin component. You can do boiled chicken and cooked white rice, toast without butter, apple sauce, and other bland white human foods. If he isn’t back to normal in a day or two, it would be best to have him checked out by a vet.

Stomach upset solution
Hi, and thanks for your question. As a first approach, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Typically, a bland diet (such as boiled white meat chicken and white rice) can be helpful for medication-induced GI upset. If your dog isn't eating, vomiting, having diarrhea or otherwise feeling ill, then I would recommend having him evaluated by his veterinarian, as something more than just a medication reaction may be going on.
