Cat got hot water in eye, can't open. Is it damaged? What to do?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 5 lbs

I was taking a hot shower when my cat entered and I think hot water entered his eyes. He is constantly licking his paw and then putting the paw on his eyes. He has trouble opening one eye. Is there possible damage to his eyes ? What can I do ?

It could be that some of the hot water splashed into Chimpu's eyes irritating them Try flushing his eyes with cool water to see if that helps. If he keeps rubbing at them, the eyes turns red, and/or you see a discharge coming from his eyes, then I would have him checked out by a vet. I hope this helps!

Poor Snoopy. This can really irritate a cat's eye, and it's clearly bothering him since he is keeping it closed. Rinse his eye with cool water, and take him into a vet asap to have it treated. Best of luck.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. I highly recommend that you have Chiku evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Good luck and best wishes!

While bathing my Persian kitten it got shampoo in his eye now it's eye had become red nd it's not opening it please help me
Just rinse out the eye with A LOT of tap water. The eye is going to be irritated, that would be expected. You can go to a pharmacy and buy artificial tears ointment to apply to the eye twice a day until it looks better.

My cat was licking some honey off my finger and she knocked my finger into her eye with some honey on it . Do I use pet wipes or can I use a warm cloth to help get it out? She has tried cleaning it but she keeps squinting
Poor Boots! You can use a warm washcloth or cotton ball, or try rinsing her eye with plain saline eye wash. If she's still squinting and acting uncomfortable by tomorrow, then I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam as she may have damaged her cornea.

My cat has a hair in his eye he is closing it and it appears to be watering so I leave it overnight and check in the morning is it's still causing him discomfort or do I attempt to flush out the hair for him
This sounds uncomfortable for Gandalf! If you can see an obvious hair, you can try to flush his eye with a sterile saline based eye wash. However, if Gandalf is still closing his eye or showing any sensitivity after you flush his eye, he needs to be seen by his vet. There is a chance that the hair or other foreign material may have scratched his eye, causing a corneal ulcer. Make sure he is wearing an e-collar (cone) to prevent any further scratching or rubbing of his eye.

My 3 year old male cat's one eye started to water a lot, there is no sign of any unormal fluid coming out, but i am a bit worried since he is abviously bothered by it with the extra blinking. Any advice?
Place an e-collar (cone) on Mimi and have him examined by your veterinarian. There may be a corneal injury that you can't see or developing infection. If Mimi is squinting or blinking, the eye may be causing discomfort. Tiny hairs in the eyelids may also be causing irritation which would cause excess tearing.

If there is an emergency vet within a reasonable distance, I would recommend that Willie get checked out sooner than later. Eye problems can be very painful, and can go from bad to worse very quickly (even overnight). There can be many causes of squinting an eye, including something stuck under the eyelid, corneal abrasion or ulcer, autoimmune disease, among a few others. Without personally seeing it I can't be certain, but what you may be seeing with him "looking to the upper right" is the effect of a raised third eyelid covering the inner part of the eye to make it look weird. You can try to flush the eye with a saline eye rinse, but do not apply any medications topically. Keep him inside in a dim room since bright light makes many eye problems more painful.

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about He Tian. I would suspect that he may have gotten into a fight with another animal outdoors, or he could have injured his eye. He can't keep his eye open because the eye is painful to light. He has to see a vet immediately. Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. One of my cat's eyes is not clear as the other one, it's a little foggy ( Not serious enough to call it cloudy). When she is in the dark her eyes reflections are different, she has no tears or redness. She is very active,eat and drink well, I noticed
Anything to make one eye less clear than the other is cause for concern. Blinking more in one eye or squinting the eye is a sign of ocular pain or discomfort. Corneal ulcerations or abrasions can cause these signs, as can viruses, glaucoma, inflammatory changes within the eye (referred to as anterior uveitis), among others. I would recommend getting your cat to the vet sooner rather than later, as eye injuries can worsen rapidly. Please do not wash her eye with water, as this can be irritating. A sterile saline based eye wash can be used to wash away excessive discharge until she can be taken to a vet for further evaluation. Also, purchase an Elizabethan collar or cone to prevent her from scratching or rubbing at the affected eye.

Clean the eyes with a moist cotton 3 times a day (lukewarm water), if it's still bothering him tomorrow take him to the vet to get special drops.
