My vaccinated dog bit me. Do I need another human rabies shot?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 18 days old

Hello my name is Margaux and I am bitten by my dog but they already vaccinated him with Anti-Rabies last 5-16-18 (The brand name is Rabisin™). He also bit me last month and they already vaccinated me. Then he bit me again today but the wound is so small, it's on my finger. I washed it with soap and added betadine on it. I just want to know if I needed to be injected by anti-rabies again or not. I'm scared of what will happen to me, I'm so nervous. Please help me. (The wound is so small)

Hi Margaux! I'm sorry that Chim Chim has been biting you. If he has been fully vaccinated against rabies, there is no worry to you about getting it from him. Now if he hasn't been fully vaccinated, i.e. he's had only one rabies vaccine and not the subsequent booster, I would give your human doctor a call. Your question about needing to be re-vaccinated is one related to human medicine, and since we are veterinarians and veterinary professionals, we cannot advise on human medical questions. Give your doctor a call to find out if you need another vaccine. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Almond's rabies vaccine is expired and she gets into fights or has been bitten by wild animals or unvaccinated pets then you should. I would contact your Public health department in your Country and speak with a human doctor. If Almond's Rabies vaccine hasn't expired then you should be fine. Please keep it up to date. Have a great day!
