Senior dog head tilt after laser therapy: Is it a stroke or ear issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 10 years and 4 months old | 20 lbs

Have you ever heard of laser therapy on the spine causing a stroke? As soon as I got my senior pug in the car her head was tilted to one side. It has stayed in that position for 3 days so far. Saw vet today. She thought it was an ear thing but it happened immediately after the treatment.

In all of the years I have seen cold laser therapy being used, I have never seen or heard of such a side effect associated with the treatment. There is no physiological mechanism by which the cold laser would trigger a stroke that I know of. This is likely incidental and occurred separate from the treatment. This could be vestibular disease, seeing that he is 10 years old. This usually resolves on its own after 3-5 days. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
