My pet has a mouth cut. What can I buy at Petco to prevent infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 2 months old | 8.2 lbs

Luna seems to have hurt herself by her mouth somehow. It looks like a cut or maybe a scratch? (pictures attached) What and where can I buy something to put on there to make sure it doesn't get infected and heals better?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I would recommend using a mixture of betadine and saline or water so that you have a light brown solution and use this to clean the area. I would then apply a wound cream such as Sentry Wound Ointment, which you can find online or at PetCo. Monitor for worsening and if the area becomes swollen or begins to show signs of discharge, I would have Luna examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
