Can my vaccinated dogs catch distemper after visiting a sick home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 8 years and 3 months old | 23 lbs

My friend’s dog just had distemper and unfortunately passed away. I was wondering would it be okay for me to come over their house when I have dogs? Although, my dogs are vaccinated annually I was wondering if it will be possible that they still catch the virus?

Thank you for submitting your question. It should be fine to visit. I would change your clothes as soon as you come home and could even shower before interacting with your own dogs. Being adult dogs and fully vaccinated their risk would be minimal. I certainly would not take your dogs to your dogs to your friend's house though. I hope this information helps!
