A hard Lump on right front elbow. What may be the reason and what is the treatment?

This lump on Bolluvai's elbow could be from an injury, a cyst, or a benign tumor. It could also be part of his normal anatomy (it may be the point on the elbow). Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain nor can I say what the treatment might be for it as it may not require treatment. I'd recommend a visit with his vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing the lump, and if any treatment is needed. Give your vet a call today to set up an appointment. Best of luck!

Dog has a growth on elbow
That's a good size growth. This could be benign or malignant. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Pets can get many types of lumps and bumps. Most of these tumors will be benign but some will be malignant and you can't tell by looks. Additionally, this could also be related to a pressure point. The doctor may recommend to aspirate the mass to examine the cells under a microscope. That is one of the best ways to know what it is and if further action is needed. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Poor Spots! I love his name and coloring! From the picture it looks like he may be dealing with some elbow calluses. It is not uncommon for these to become abraded and infected. Without laying my hands on Spots I cannot be certain of this though, so I recommend he be seen by your regular veterinarian to have the areas thoroughly evaluated. He may indeed have a mass that has become irritated, or perhaps has been bitten by an insect. Once your vet has determined a likely cause they will advise you on a treatment plan and dispense any necessary medications.

Thank you for your question. A swelling like this could be a couple of things. If Blue does not appear painful and is not limping, this may just be a hygroma, which is just a fluid filled swelling from laying on the hard ground. If this is the case, I would simply recommend soft bedding, and try to keep him from laying directly on the hard floor, and it should improve over 2-3 weeks. If it is painful to the touch, hot, or if Blue is limping, this could be an infection and he should be seen by your veterinarian as soon as you can get him in. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Hello! This would not worry me too much as it looks suspicious for a benign growth or related to pressure from sitting/laying on his elbow. However the only way to know for sure would be to see it in person and to sample it. If it is recently noticed, I think it would be ok to monitor it for growth or irritation and have it sampled if you have any concerns. I hope this helps!

I think continuing with the consultation is your best option and you're on the right track. Your veterinarian can examine the growth and may recommend an aspirate or biopsy of the area to determine what it is and if it requires surgical removal or treatment such as antibiotics if infection is present. Compression is also sometimes recommended for protection and treatment of the area. In the meantime, keeping Arlo from licking or chewing at the spot can help decrease any irritation.

I would have this lump on Laila checked out by a vet first. While it could be a cyst, there is always a chance it could be something more serious like a malignant tumor (although the chances are low in a young dog). It's also important to have any lump checked out by a vet to make sure it isn't something concerning. Should it be a cyst, an antibiotic ointment will not do anything for it, and I would only recommend warm compresses and cleaning it if the cyst was opened and draining. Do not try to pop it! Typically you can leave these cysts alone as long as it isn't bothering your dog and isn't getting bigger. First step is to have it definitively diagnosed by a vet, so I would give her vet a call for an appointment. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Any lumps/bumps that you notice on your dog should be checked out by your vet. Lumps can be any of these things: * abscess (infection) * cyst * cancer (benign or malignant) * wart * hygroma * hernia Unfortunately, there is no way I can tell you what it is with 100% certainty just based on your description or by looking at a photo but I have a suspicion that you are correct and it is a hygroma. If you are worried it is always best to get something like this checked out sooner rather than later.
