Puppy's healed dog bite scar has a pink lump. Is it a concern?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 29 days old

My puppy was found with a homeless man with a large scar across her face. It looks as if she was but by another dog. It was headed when I got her at 7 weeks old. Now I have her at 10, and there is a small lump on the corner of the scar. It is slightly colored pink, but hardly noticible. Should I be concerned of a larger issue? Or is this just a healing process?

I can't really see the pink area you are referring to in your picture, but I agree that the laceration appears to be healed. I am wondering if the pink area is simply an area of new scar tissue. Occasionally there will be granulation tissue that inhibits full skin healing, but this is usually red tissue that bleeds. If the wound is not completely healed a surgical procedure may be necessary. She is probably due for vaccines at some point in the near future; you may want to have your veterinarian examine the area the next time she goes in for vaccine boosters.
