My cat isn't eating or playing for days. Is he sick or depressed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | unneutered | 5.5 lbs

So a stray cat came my home and never wanted to leave so I kept him. He was too playful cheerful friendly and was always seeking everyone's attention by his friendly playful nature ate 3 times a day. Since past 5,6 days my cat isn't speaking, playing, eating anything at all. Feels like he's down or sick or sad or no idea what. But he stays quiet and seems gloomy. Tried giving him different things to eat but he is showing no interest in eating. Just takes few bites in all day with difficulty.

I'm so sorry to hear that Beow isn't feeling well. It is very concerning when a cat doesn't eat for more than 24 hours. I would recommend having Beow examined by a veterinarian right away. They may be able to tell you what is going on based on an examination, but more likely may need to do some blood work. Unfortunately, cats tend to become sicker the longer they do not eat and do not tend to improve without treatment, so I would recommend having him treated as soon as possible. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and that Beow feels better soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
