Is my dog's constant garden sniffing and ignoring me normal behavior?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cockapoo | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old

My dog is a cockapoo and whenever we let her out in the garden she just runs repeated laps sniffing around but she never stops unless we bring her inside. When we shout her she takes minimal notice of us. Is this normal behaviour for a dog.

Yes, this is normal. Ella is checking out all the smells in your garden, and if there have been visitors to your garden like neighborhood cats, that smell will attract her attention. You can start training her to come when you call her, and I will put a link below on how to do this. I hope this helps! https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/training/basic-training/teach-dog-to-come-when-called/
