Is my dog's constant garden sniffing and ignoring me normal behavior?

My dog is a cockapoo and whenever we let her out in the garden she just runs repeated laps sniffing around but she never stops unless we bring her inside. When we shout her she takes minimal notice of us. Is this normal behaviour for a dog.

Yes, this is normal. Ella is checking out all the smells in your garden, and if there have been visitors to your garden like neighborhood cats, that smell will attract her attention. You can start training her to come when you call her, and I will put a link below on how to do this. How can I get her to fetch outside? She does it perfectly inside but in the backyard loses interest. Also she will come when called everywhere perfectly but the backyard and the house, why is that? Like at the dog park she will come or out on a walk.
This Behavior may be due to the fact that she is more comfortable in her own environment. Being at a dog park, it is sort of an unfamiliar environment and is not where she normally is so she may feel more comfortable and that she can get away with more in your backyard. Also, there may be more distractions in the backyard that she is familiar with. I would recommend keeping her on a leash in the backyard and teaching her commands in the backyard when I'm the leash. Once she respond to those command on the leash reward her with treats to reinforce the positive behavior. I am glad to hear that she is listing to you when outside of the backyard versus the other way around. I would also suggest training her with a dog clicker or whistle to see if this helps more than your own voice. I hope this helps! When I let my dog outside to go potty, she just stands by the fence and watches. Then she barks at anyone who walks by. She normally comes when called but when she’s “guarding” outside, I have to pick her up and bring her in because she won’t come in
This type of behavior is not unusual. Olive is likely watching out for any 'intruders' and she is protecting her territory. It will help to work on the recall command. My 3 year old dog starts out walking okay but she gets distracted by other people and pets on our walk and she's obsessed with sniffing everything, and she'll slow down towards the middle of our walk. How do I break this behavior
This sounds like very normal dog behavior. If you really must change it then you can do a quick, gentle but firm correction on her leash and use a consistent term such as "this way" or "leave it". It is also important to give her a time in which this free behavior is okay. You can unleash her and say "go play" for example.

My bichon ..When given space to run in a park .Never hears my command to come back to me and eats unwanted stuff on the grass ..How do I solve this?
This is a common problem for many dogs! For starters, I would recommend not letting her off-leash until you have worked on her training a bit more - you can use a long line (a long, light-weight leash up to 50 feet long) to give her some freedom at the park while still having her under control. To teach her to come, first practice at home in a very boring environment. Use very tasty treats that she doesn't get any other time - things like chicken, roast beef, or cheese work well for many dogs. Call her name, and say "come!" in an excited voice. In the beginning, you can also show her the treats if you need to. As soon as she comes to you, give her a handful of treats and lots of praise. When she can do this in the house, try it outside in your yard on-leash. Work up to practicing at the park on her long line, always making sure that you have yummy treats to reward her with. Once she's reliable, you can begin letting her off-leash for short periods, as long as she always comes

Why does my pet ignore me when I call him or use his name. He is very well taken care of and a loving member of our family .
In the beginning, pets come to their owners because they are in a new environment, and the human is their source of food, water, treats, pets, etc. Once they become more comfortable, they notice that there's a whole big world out there, and you are not so unique anymore. So they don't come running just because they're called. As with any othercommand or behavior, they have to be taught to come. Put Ricky on a leash and have him sit. Standin front of him and tell him to stay (this may take some practrice before he'll actually remain in place). Go to the end of the leash, wait a few seconds, and then call "Ricky, come!" (Not "come, Ricky'--there is a difference!) If he starts to come before you've called him, or even finished calling him, say "no" and put him back into a sit. If he waits until you've called and he comes, praise him! If he doesn't move, give a very gentle tug on the leash after you've called and encourage him to come. Bandit whines wanting to go outside and has a certain spot that he sniffs and licks and you have to yank him to get him to move. Is that normal?

I'm having a hard time keeping patty focus when I'm training her. My backyard is spacious and lately I've been considering training her in a pen. Is this a good idea to try out?
If there are a lot of distractions in the yard it may be better to go in some kind of an enclosed pen. You could also work on a command like 'look at me' or something similar where she makes eye contact with you inside and then practice outside. If she is wandering off you may also want to consider simply having her on a long lead when she's out in the yard - that way you can draw her towards you to get her attention and begin training again. Keep in mind that younger dogs do better with more frequent, shorter training sessions since their attention span may not be as long as an older dog.

Hi I have a really stubborn and not always very bright dog (love him to death though) and he runs out of yard whenever the gate is open. He never comes when you call him and he goes into our neighbors yards and it takes a long time to catch him. How
By all means,reward him when he comes back. Whenever you praise or scold a dog, the behavior you are actually praising/scolding is what's happening RIGHT NOW, not what he did a minute or an hour ago. If he gets out, do not go after or chase him, as it becomes a game. He won't come when you call him unless he has been specifically trained to do so. In other words, the "come" command means nothing to him if he has not been taught it. I would suggest that you get a better closing mechanism for the gate. I would also enroll Stitch in a good basic obedience class, where you can learn how to teach a dog commands. This is not a matter of his being a smart or stupid dog. He doesn't understand what you want, and you need to work with a professional to know how to help him to "get it." Good luck!

Sounds like Louie is doing exactly what he is bred to do; sniff around and look for little critters to munch. If your pup has been a regularly obedient boy, getting him to resume his normal behavior should hopefully be no more complicated than rewarding him for the desirable behaviors. On your walks for the time being, make sure to carry treats with you that you can use. Also, use a clicker for training if you would like to maximize effectiveness. There are numerous great video series on clicker training that you can watch for free. I am typically not a proponent of choke collars, but in some cases with large-necked breeds like Pitties, they do require. Definitely not staying to start there, but it might be something to consider down the line if his behaviors are getting worse. You also may want to give a try to the gentle leader. You will need to know if this is anxiety or excitement. Anxious dogs will generally stick right with their people. Excited dogs will explore everything. Training is needed for excitement.
