My dog has fleas or ticks. Will they bite me or my family too?

If my dogs has any types of insects like ticks or flea is it likely to have me as a host too.

The fleas and ticks will bite you as well. If Koko has fleas and ticks, you need to treat him with a medication such as Nexgard or Frontline. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

My dog was totally free of ticks and fleas since his puppy time,but now from one month his body is full of ticks and fleas.So kindly give me a better suggestion to keep away fleas and ticks from my dogs body.....
Fleas and ticks can not only be a nuisance but ticks can transmit diseases like Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, among other diseases. Fleas can pass tapeworms to your dog and make him very itchy. To get rid of the fleas you need to clean the environment really well (wash and dry his bedding on hot once a week for four weeks, vacuum the whole house and all the furniture once a day for a week and then once a week for the next three weeks. The goal is to get rid of any flea eggs in the environment.). The ticks should be removed by a veterinarian to make sure the whole tick comes off and a part of the head that could still pass disease to Bruno doesn't remain lodged in his skin. Your veterinarian will also recommend scheduling a blood test that will look for the most common tick diseases in dogs to make sure Bruno doesn't get sick from anything passed to him by the ticks. The veterinarian will likely have a few good flea and tick preventative medications at their office for you

Will my dogs flea and tick nexgaurd pill prevent against bed bugs? Just discovered this disgusting parasite issue today. Gave her the pill almost a week ago.
Hi and thanks for you question. Nexgard is indicated for the treatment and prevention of fleas and 4 major types of ticks, but not bed bugs. Sorry you are having an issue with bed bugs- they have been making a come back lately! You may want to call your local pest control and they will be able to help you get rid of them. There are a few oral products that generally work very well for ticks if you can get them. They are Nexgard and Simparica. They are tablets that you give once a month. Both dogs should be started on this medications your veterinarian agreed. First you will need to speak with your veterinarian to make sure these medications are not contraindicated. Most parents can take them but pets with seizures may not. Make sure to ask your local veterinarian if there are concerns for tickborne diseases in your area. If so, your veterinarian may want to treat the pets prophylactically. Treating the local environment as best you can with insecticides may also help. I hope this gives you some ideas. Best of luck.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Ticks live in the grass and jump on animals/cloths, and then bite and stay attached. Fleas will live in bedding/baseboards and will jump on and bite animals and then jump off. If you get a product such as Frontline, Bravecto, Nexguard, Advantix, Advantage, Revolution, etc. that should deal with fleas. Some will deal with ticks, but some won't. I would check to see if you aren't actually dealing with bed-bugs. Try getting a picture of the creatures that are on Bruno, and are crawling towards him, and we can try to help you determine what they are and what to use. Best of luck with Bruno!

What is recommended for flea and tick, specifically deer tick) prevention as well as heartworm in dogs and cats that live together. (Kids in the house too)
Great question! Nexgard kills the deer tick as well as fleas and American dog tick/rocky mountain tick, and lone star tick. It is an oral pill as well, so I would us that for your dogs. Because Nexgard doesn't protect again heartworms, you will have to give your dogs Heartgard as well, which is available by prescription only from the vet. Advantix is a spot on treatment that treats the same things as Nexgard, but you would also have to use Heartgard as well for the heartworms. These two medications (Nexgard and Advantix) are for dogs only. As for the cats, Simparica prevents five types of ticks, so this may work for your cats :-)

Oh no, I'm sorry Koda has fleas! It is safe to give him his new flea medication now, and keep in mind you need to disinfect the environment as well to kill all the fleas. My brother put Hartz topical flea treatment on my dog when I was out of town. I have an Rx for Nexgard, his fleas are horrible and he has a flea allergy. It's been 1 week and a half since the Hartz was applied. It is not doing anything for the flesh.

Hello! My Hova is doing much better now thank God. But one thing i noticed today is a brown bug (size of half a rice) crawling in and out of her fur. I'm not sure if it's a flea or a tick. It didn't jump. How can i be sure? And what treatment should
I imagine that Hova has fleas. You can take her into the vet, and they can check for flea to confirm that she does have fleas. I can give you a treatment program for it. First, I would give her Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
