What causes a dog's crusty nose and how can I treat it at home?

Leela has a crusty nose. I'm not entirely sure why she has it or what to do. I've heard of nose butter but I'd like some opinions first. The darker spots on the top of her nose is the crusty part. Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 12 years and 8 months old | 6 lbs
