Unfortunately, by law it is illegal for the experts at PetCoach to give the dose information for any drug without seeing the animal in person first. Hi. I would not if it wasn't prescribed for her. If it was, and weight is still the same, you can give a dose. But, Pyometra is life threatening. If she is shaking and feeling that bad, I'd recommend highly going to the ER.

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Mitz. Poor girl! Legally, I cannot recommend you give her the tramadol, I can't say it's safe without seeing her in person. You should call your vet now to see if it's safe. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Ouch, poor Sadie! No, I would not give her this human tramadol. First off, it's illegal for me to say you can give it to her because I can't see her in person. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for your dog. It's impossible for me to say if tramadol is an appropriate drug for her, and she could have underlying health issues I know nothing about that would make this a very unsafe drug for her to take. I also never recommend giving dogs a human pain medication unless specifically prescribed by a vet. If you feel she is in a considerable amount of pain, the best thing to do is take her into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her tonight. Otherwise, rest her as much as possible. Regardless, this is a much more serious condition than anything else and one that warrants therapy as soon as possible as it is a surgical emergency. Hello. I am so sorry for your pet's diagnosis. While there is a dose of Tramadol available for dogs, we have now learned that it is not a great drug for pain relief. It is often used here as a multi-modal approach to pain using Tramadol with an NSAID & Gabapentin. With severe pain, a fentanyl patch may be required. It is fine to use the tramadol as prescribed at the time of her spay but I recommend that you call your Vet first and describe the symptoms that Brooklyn is having. I am not sure what medications you are specifically referring to; however generally speaking most antibiotics don't cause constipation; however Tramadol (opiate pain medication) can cause constipation in some cases. I am sorry to hear that Dakota has pyometra. She will need surgery to remove the infected uterus. Until then she will likely not remain stable and happy, and continue to wax and wane with her activity level. I hope you can get her treated soon and back to her normal self. Best wishes.

Surgery is definitely the treatment of choice, as it is the only way to definitively resolve the infection. Was she diagnosed with a pyometra by your veterinarian? Typically, Xray or abdominal ultrasound (sonogram of the belly) along with physical exam, history, and bloodwork findings are how we come to this diagnosis. I say that, because of course we wouldn't want her to go to surgery unnecessarily, so please understand that your vet would need to perform some diagnostics to determine that surgery is, indeed, the recommended course of action. Having said all of that, surgery is the preferred treatment for pyometra. Thank you for asking Boop by Petco!

She needs treatment now or this could be fatal. I would see if you can borrow money from family and friends, and I can also give you some resources to see if that helps.
