Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | spayed | 5 years old | 28 lbs
My beagle had upper neck herniated disc surgery Feb 2017. She injured her back this week, vet says it may be inflammation of soft tissue in back. spine was good according to mid/lower back X-rays. Her meds are 100mg gabapentin, 25mg rimadyl, 25mg tramadol for the next 2 weeks. My concern is that she has been unable to bark as she normally does & her tail is not perked up as usual. Would these symptoms be due to meds or possibly linked to back injury? Able to walk, eating normal, bowel is normal.

Hello, sorry to hear about Mia. Gabapentin and Tramadol could induce some sedation and lethargy. This may cause her changes in her bark. I suspect that her tail may not be perked up due to her back injury. Continue to rest her and give her the medications. As long as she is eating and walking ok, you may continue to monitor her at home. If she begins to be more painful, stops eating, or if she develops deficiencies in her gait (stumbling, dragging limbs, or unable to walk) then have her seen by her veterinarian immediately. Hope this helps and best of luck.
