Bella is experiencing a reaction to rabies vaccine. She has had reactions to vaccines in the past so she was injected with Benadryl prior. She was fine for 24 hours and then began itching and rubbing her face. She is a bit better this morning but going to the vet to be checked and possible shot (steroid?) my question is, is the steroid shot dangerous? Or is it not as bad as it is hopefully a one time thing? She has had 2-3 in the past for reactions. Last one was a few years ago. Should I pass?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bella. I try to avoid chronic high doses of steroids in dogs whenever possible as there are side effects internally and externally. However, an injection to control a reaction is not something that concerns me if she is not taking other medications. Steroids can interfere with certain drugs. If her veterinarian deams it necessary after seeing her, then I would go ahead and have it administered. Great question!
