Why isn't my 2-month-old puppy eating but only drinking water?

Brands of puppy food I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. There could be a medical reason why Shabby isn't eating, so I do recommend a check up with the vet today to make sure she is healthy. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Bella is adorable! If she is lethargic and not acting herself I recommend taking her to a Vet. If she is acting otherwise okay then I would try a different brand of puppy food, get canned if you have been feeding dry and dry if you have been feeding canned. Try some meat flavored baby foods. I would also have a stool sample checked for intestinal parasites as that is a common cause of problems in small breed dogs. If none of the above works she needs a Vet exam. Toy breed puppies that do not eat are at risk for low blood sugar which is life threatening. I wish you the best!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Mystic. Being such a tiny puppy, she may have difficulty regulating her blood sugar. If very young small puppies go too long between meals, their blood sugar can drop too low. This results in a weak lethargic puppy that will be less interested in eating and drinking. You can try using a supplement known as NutriCal to keep her blood sugar up. If she seems unresponsive, place karo syrup on her gums and seek immediate veterinary care. Otherwise, leave puppy food available at all times so that she does not need to go extended periods between meals. Continue this until she is around 4 months of age. As far as another puppy food option, I would use a small or tiny breed formula from Purina or Hills. These are trustworthy companies with products backed by extensive research. You can add warm water to the dry kibble, mix canned and dry food or just offer canned. You may have to try different combinations to see what she likes. I hope this info

My puppy not eating Kirkland puppy food. Should I switch to something else? He doesn't eat all of it and I wonder if he doesn't like it. Had him for about 3 weeks.. and he is about 4 months old.
You may be feeding too much. Use the recommendation on the back of the bag for his weight for a starting place for amount fed/day. If he is bright, alert, plays like a normal puppy and is gaining weight, he is likely just fine. Make certain he is current on his deworming and vaccinations. Puppies at this age do well with 2-3 meals daily. If you leave food out all the time he may not ever be particularly hungry and therefore it seems like he isn't eating well. I personally prefer a Hills/Science Diet or Royal Canin brand puppy food if you want to try a different, higher quality puppy diet. Hope that helps!

It is not normal for a two month old puppy to not want to eat. I suggest you take him to the vet for an exam. I am glad he is acting normally and playing but he needs to eat. I don't know what foods you have tried but I suggest Purina Pro Plan Savor - it is made for picky eaters. Use the puppy formula and you may want to mix in some canned food with the dry in the beginning. The canned food only comes as adult and it is OK to mix a bit with the dry if needed. DO NOT feed him any human foods - you will get him in a habit you cannot break. My 7 1/2 month old puppy stopped eating his Hills Science Diet puppy food. He has been on that since like June any other recommendations for another quality brand of food? Much appreciated for your help.
If he stopped eating it just because he doesn't like it then you can a new brand of food and see if that improves his appetite. I really like Royal Canin and Eukanuba brand foods. Both have great puppy diets. I don't know if he is a large or small breed puppy so get him the appropriate sized puppy food. Some dogs are just picky and you have to change the food around a few times before you find one that sticks. If he stopped eating because he has no appetite then he needs to see the vet for an exam. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is certainly not that unusual in puppies and really in some adults as well as they adjust to a new environment. If she seems fine otherwise with a good activity level, I recommend you try a highly palatable diet such as the Purina Pro Plan shredded blends or potentially consider adding pieces of boiled chicken or dog grade gravy to make her current diet more palatable. This is likely going to work for you. If at some point, she appears to not be doing well, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Good luck!

Congrats on your new puppy, Honey is very cute! No, it is not right to feed her milk, especially cow's milk. Dairy productions should never be fed to dogs due to GI upset, and milk alone is not a balanced diet for a puppy. It will not be providing her with the nutrients she needs to grow properly. Puppies need higher amounts of protein, calories, and calcium than adult dogs, and a puppy formulated food will give that to her. It may be that she isn't used to puppy food yet, and I can give you a method to try to get her used to puppy food. To help her get used to puppy food, I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with puppy formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry puppy food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until she is eating the dry puppy food only.

As long as it is a name brand food with an AAFCO label on it. This means it has been tested and meets specific standards. Typically royal canin, Purina, science diet, and Iams qualify for this. Be careful switching foods without suddenly as this can cause diarrhea. It is best to mix them and gradually switch it over a week

I have an almost 5 month old Shih Poo and I've noticed that he lacks appetite when we changed his dog food. We had a trial run with the food he has now and he really liked it at first until recently. This is the only change we've seen of him though.
I think it is worth a try, yes. If he still doesn't like it, then perhaps a slow transition to another high quality puppy food can be tried. I really like Royal Canin, Hills Science diet, Evo, Merrick And Eukanuba brands if you interested in other brand options. Best of luck with Boovs and getting him interested in his food again.

Kudos to you for being so concerned about Buddy! :-) As long as Buddy is at a healthy body weight, he is likely getting plenty to eat. To make sure he seems to be a healthy body weight, run your hands over his ribs to assure that you can easily feel (but not see) his ribs. You should also be able to see a "waistline" when looking down at him. I can't see Buddy well enough in the pictures to help you determine if his weight is appropriate. Some dogs are naturally picky or have been conditioned to eat less dog food because they know that treats or more appealing food is coming. I always recommend offering food twice daily as you are doing, but some dogs choose to only eat once a day. Avoid midday treats or snacks to try to train Buddy to eat at mealtimes and continue avoiding table scraps. Make sure that Buddy is being offered a high quality kibble (I generally recommend Science Diet, Purina ProPlan or Royal Canin foods) and if you choose to switch foods, be sure to do so by mixing old
