Is it safe if I touched cat poop? Should I worry about toxoplasmosis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Himalayan | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 10 days old | 6.6 lbs

Hi, Do all cats have toxoplasmos parasite or only those who eat raw meat ? I had to clean Noushi & I just touched her poop. I washed my hand with soap & used sanitizer, should I be worried for me ?

Not all cats carry toxoplasma and of those that do, they do not shed it everyday. The toxo eggs are not immediately infective in fresh faeces but take a day or so to mature and develop before they are spread to people if eaten. Brief contact with faeces which is washed off immediately is not a major concern as the mature eggs would need to be ingested in order to contract it
