My dog's red skin marks are spreading after using a cream. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog had 3 round red marks, looked like ring worm. We got ointment “clotrimazole cream” and now it’s just a big red spot and looks like it’s spreading. What do I do?

This is likely a bacterial skin infection, which is why Clotrimazole is not clearing this up. Since this type of skin infection can spread like wildfire, it will need to be seen by a vet ASAP. Depending on the type of bacteria involved your dog will need a specific antibiotic. In the meantime you can wash her with an antibacterial shampoo, which may help.
