How to help a paralyzed cat with hind leg spasms and muscle pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 8 lbs

I have a cat that is paralyzed due to damage on T11 vertebra. All organs and bladder/colon function. He is having involuntary spasms in his hinde quarters. What can I give him to relax the muscles and reduce the inflammation? I am in France right now and can go to a vet supply store or a pharmacy.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about the accident- poor Champ! While there are no real over the counter medications approved for cats that will help, you can try placing a warm water bottle or heating pad between a couple towels or cloths over the area for 10-15 mins 3-4 times a day to increase circulation and help relax muscles. If he is no better, I would recommend having Champ seen soon by a veterinarian. I hope this helps!
