My stray cat cries and can't find her only kitten. What's wrong?

My stray cat is too overprotective about her only kitten left, still she is unable to find him even if he is around her and kept howling and crying untill I interevene. What's wrong with her? Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! She could be coming in to heat again if the remaining kitten is weaned and over 6 weeks of age. I know in previous posts that she recently lost a kitten, she could be more searching for that one. She will need more time to adjust to the lose of that kitten. I wish you the best!
