My dog's seizures returned after eating chicken. Is it a food allergy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years old | 42 lbs

My dog just turned 2 and started having seizures (about 20secs each time) for about 4x in a span of 5-6hrs. We brought him to the vet and his blood work seems to be ok. Aft a 24h non-seizure period, they sent him home. He hasn’t had seizures for abt 10 days ever since he got home from the vet and we fed him mainly brown rice, veg and fish. Today we boiled some frozen chicken and within 2-3hrs after his meal, he started getting seizures again. The only diff is the chix. Could he be allergic?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. This is likely not secondary to the chicken that you gave Loki. I suspect the main seizure disorder triggered more seizures. I would discuss with the veterinarian about starting Loki on anti-seizure medications to help stop the seizures from occurring. I would also consider a workup with a neurologist to discuss MRI / CT scan of Loki to help try and determine what the cause of the seizures could be. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
