Why is my cat losing weight, hair, has scabs, and breathing issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered

My cat is around 5 years old. He has been losing weight, losing hair, grooming constantly, increased appetite, sounds congested in his nose when he breathes, and has scabs all over his neck. He spends some time outside, but never all day/night. My husband and I thought he might have gotten into a fight, but he has not improved. Could fleas be the cause, or is it something more serious???

Fleas cannot be the cause for the breathing and other general symptoms, the scabs over the neck could be caused by the fleas. unfortunately this is not all, he seems to be suffering from an infection that is causing those symptoms, you will need to take him to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated.
