Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 15 lbs

My dog pees and poops on the carpet when we leave and at night . We have tried everything and she finds her way out . Metal cage-rips gums and teeth out, mesh cage chews her way out, kitchen with a gate chewed base boards has to have wood slivers removed from her mouth, we have take her to the vet many times no urinary trac infection being in her senior years ( 9) . We have sent her to day cares and she just freaks out barks the entire times and they call us to pick her up and nobody sits her.

Poor Ruby! I'm sorry to hear that she's having this problem. Housetraining accidents and destructive behavior that only occurs when you're not around are very common signs of separation anxiety in dogs. This is a difficult problem to treat effectively and one that nearly always requires professional help, so I would recommend getting in touch with a veterinary behaviorist who can evaluate Ruby in person. He/she can help you put together a treatment plan to address her anxiety, which will likely include medication as well as a training plan to help her learn to be more comfortable by herself. You can search for a board-certified veterinary behaviorist in your area here: www.dacvb.org
