Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your question. I would not recommend formulating your own ear cleaner and instead purchase a commercial ear cleaner. I would recommend using Zymox otic cleanser or Epi Otic ear cleanser. Both of these can be found online quite easily. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further. Hi there and thank you for asking this question. During active infections often prescription cleaners have products in them that help the medication work more efficiently. In between infections sometimes DIY cleaning solutions can be ok, but i really approach this on a case by case basis. Ideally trying to identify the underlying cause and treating that (often allergies) is the best approach. I would consider reaching out to your veterinarian to discuss what types of infections he has had (bacteria or yeast) to help Determine what ingredients to incorporate. I would also inquire about a hypoallergenic diet trial as well as antihistamine use. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
