Why is my dog's irritated dry eye not getting better after vet visits?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 98 lbs

Why is my dogs eye like this? Irritated& dry. She was seen at a vet and the doctors can't seem to correctly diagnose. One doctor said it started off as pink eye then another doctor says it's allergies. Her eye has been like this going on a month now started off small and increased in size

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would recommend Diamond get a skin scraping and fungal culture from her veterinarian to rule out demodex mites as a cause and a fungal infection such as ringworm. Both can be treated with medications when diagnosed. Of course, it could be due to another cause such as allergies, but I would start with a skin scrape and culture first. I hope this helps and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
