Dog needs tick prevention for 2 weeks before switching flea/tick meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mountain Feist | Male | neutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 27 lbs

My dog gets an oral flea preventative monthly. Recently I discovered it doesn't protect against ticks. I was wondering what my options were regarding tick prevention for two weeks until it's time for his next dose at which point I'll be switching to a different product that protects against both

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You can't combine the other orals with the one you gave. Personally I would just wait the 2 weeks. You can use the Seresto collar but that lasts for 8 months so I see not point then of using a new product. All the topical medications last 1 month. It would just save you money to wait and check him over well for ticks. I like Nexgard, Bravecto or Simparica for the oral flea and tick and the Seresto collar. I wish you the best!
