My dog has a sprain. What care should I give and what to avoid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 4 days old

My dog is sprained, as what her vet said. But it was my sister who took her there and she said she forgot the reminders of the vet. I want to ask what should I do and avoid to do with her current state.

I can only speculate what her vet wants her to do, but I can give you my suggestions. I would rest Aki as much as possible. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to potty on a leash only, and bring her right back in when she's done. No walks. You may need to keep her confined to a small room or crate to make sure she stays rested. Give any pain medications prescribed by the vet, and do NOT give her any human ones. Those are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I'd give your vet a call in the morning to see how long they want her to rest, and if there are any additional instructions. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
